Dots per inch: how many pixels of the museum’s file go into each inch of paper. Our floor is 240 for sheets up to 20 inches, 180 up to 36 inches and 120 beyond, because a larger print is seen from further away. We never offer a sheet below the floor, and the number on each size is the one you receive.

All editionsBoth of them wear gold: the brocade is painted on in stencilled flowers over the red of Joseph's cloak and the dark of his robe, and the same pattern covers the small cape of the Child, who holds his father's hand and carries a basket of carpenter's tools. Joseph's other hand lifts a stem of lilies. Rays go out from both heads, a garland of roses runs round the edge, and red and gold birds fly through the clouds toward a castle on the hill behind. The painter is unknown, one of the workshops of Cuzco in Peru, and the Brooklyn Museum, which acquired the canvas on its 1941 expedition, dates it to the late seventeenth or the eighteenth century and notes that such saints hung in bedrooms: Joseph, patron of a good death, watched over evening prayer and sleep. He walks the boy forward. The boy looks out at us, not at the road.
