Dots per inch: how many pixels of the museum’s file go into each inch of paper. Our floor is 240 for sheets up to 20 inches, 180 up to 36 inches and 120 beyond, because a larger print is seen from further away. We never offer a sheet below the floor, and the number on each size is the one you receive.

All editionsJesse sleeps on the grass with his head on his hand, and the tree grows out of him. The Rijksmuseum reads it as Christ's family tree: the branches are filled with the kings of Israel, King David among them with his harp, and at the top Our Lady is enthroned with the Christ Child on her lap, an angel at either shoulder. Isaias wrote that “there shall come forth a rod out of the root of Jesse, and a flower shall rise up out of his root”: here the root is an old man asleep and the flower is a Child. Below, a nun in white kneels at the foot of the tree with a rosary in her hands, and a walled garden closes the ground behind her. The painter worked in Haarlem around 1500, in the circle of Geertgen tot Sint Jans. Every branch is a generation that waited for Him, and we wait with them.
