Sizes

What is dpi?

Dots per inch: how many pixels of the museum’s file go into each inch of paper. Our floor is 240 for sheets up to 20 inches, 180 up to 36 inches and 120 beyond, because a larger print is seen from further away. We never offer a sheet below the floor, and the number on each size is the one you receive.

About this painting

A ring of women in white coifs sits on the grass, and only one of them looks at us: a plain, flushed face framed in starched linen, her hands folded in her lap. Beside her an old woman has shut her eyes; a girl at the right holds a printed sheet; two men in black hats and blue sashes stand behind with their hands in their pockets, waiting. The spire of the church rises over the trees, and along the wall more coifs are gathered in the grey light. Pascal Dagnan-Bouveret painted Les Bretonnes au Pardon in 1887, and the Museu Calouste Gulbenkian, which bought it from the Galerie Georges Petit in 1921, records that it was shown at the Paris Salon to great acclaim and that a pardon is a day of indulgence granted by the Church to the faithful who come. They have walked to the shrine, heard Mass, and sat down. The quiet afterwards is the picture.
