Everything around her is a title from the litany. The Museo de Bellas Artes de Granada reads them: the sun, the moon, a spotless mirror, the morning star, the gate of heaven, a lily set among thorns.
The colors speak too. Her tunic is hyacinth, which the museum calls the color of purity; her mantle is the deep sky blue of eternity.
Fray Juan Sánchez Cotán, at the Charterhouse of Granada from 1603, painted her as a girl of twelve or thirteen, at prayer. The museum points to the jewelwork of her mantle and the leaves embroidered on her tunic.
