Sizes

What is dpi?

Dots per inch: how many pixels of the museum’s file go into each inch of paper. Our floor is 240 for sheets up to 20 inches, 180 up to 36 inches and 120 beyond, because a larger print is seen from further away. We never offer a sheet below the floor, and the number on each size is the one you receive.

About this painting

In a grotto opening onto mountains and a river, Our Lady kneels with her arm around the young Saint John the Baptist and her other hand held out over her Son. The Christ Child, steadied by an angel, raises His hand to bless John, who kneels to Him with his hands joined. The Louvre records the contract Leonardo signed on 25 April 1483 for the chapel of the Confraternity of the Immaculate Conception at San Francesco Grande in Milan, and finds by infrared that he changed the angel's pose late in the work. The blessing meant for John reaches us.
