Cecilia's wedding night is the subject, though nothing here says wedding. She had told Valerianus she had asked God to keep her virginity and that an angel had granted it; Orazio paints the company rather than the argument. She plays; the angel holds music no one has ever managed to identify. Diane De Grazia reads two hands in the canvas — Gentileschi's heads, the rest by Giovanni Lanfranco, who likely finished what Orazio left behind in Rome. After 1599, when the saint's remains were rediscovered, images of her multiplied at the organ.
