About this painting

Psalm 141 — Evening Incense

I have cried to thee, O Lord, hear me: hearken to my voice, when I cry to thee. Let my prayer be directed as incense in thy sight; the lifting up of my hands, as evening sacrifice. Set a watch, O Lord, before my mouth: and a door round about my lips.

Short Reading

And may the God of peace himself sanctify you in all things: that your whole spirit and soul and body may be preserved blameless in the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. He is faithful who hath called you, who also will do it.

Canticle of Mary (Magnificat)

My soul doth magnify the Lord. And my spirit hath rejoiced in God my Saviour. Because he hath regarded the humility of his handmaid: for behold from henceforth all generations shall call me blessed. Because he that is mighty hath done great things to me: and holy is his name. And his mercy is from generation unto generations, to them that fear him.

Evening prayers for the Church

Lord, as this day draws to a close, we bring our evening prayers before you. We give thanks for your mercies today. We ask forgiveness for our failures and shortcomings. We commend to your care all those in need this night. Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done. Amen.

Blessing & Dismissal

May the Lord bless you and keep you. May his face shine upon you and be gracious to you. May he lift up his countenance upon you and give you peace. Go in peace to love and serve the Lord. Thanks be to God.
