A young king in white and gold rides a white horse through a country of pale rock and pine, and a whole city rides behind him. The Palazzo Medici Riccardi names Caspar, in white, as the leader on this east wall, frescoed by Benozzo Gozzoli from 1459 onwards, and names living men in the train: Cosimo and Piero de' Medici, the young Lorenzo and Giuliano, Gian Galeazzo Sforza, Sigismondo Pandolfo Malatesta and Pope Pius II. The Web Gallery of Art notes that Benozzo put himself in the crowd, his name on his red cap. Up the hill a deer runs. The road bends toward the Christ Child.
