He is feeding, eyes nearly shut, one hand on her chest, the other tucked between their bodies; a blue cloth wraps his head. She looks down under thin brows, in a sage-green bodice with blue sleeves and a white cloak across her lap. Both halos are gold filigree against the dark.
The name changed in the laboratory. Barbara Berrie and Michael Swicklik, publishing in 2009, reported a brown ground, an oil medium and the pigments orpiment and Naples yellow, habits of Correggio. Paris in 2008 and Rome in 2016 hung it as Correggio. The Gallery's label says possibly.
