About this painting
Thirteen figures, and the French state's own inventory names them one by one: Christ borne by Joseph of Arimathea and Nicodemus, the Virgin, Saint John, the holy women, the Magdalen, two old men, Saint James — and the donor, in a canon's habit, kneeling among them. It is painted on walnut boards and it has never belonged to a museum. It hangs on the north wall of the nave at Nouans-les-Fontaines, where it was classified as a protected object in October 1931.
