A sickle moon, and pressed flat beneath it, a dragon. Our Lady sits on the moon in red, crowned, and the dark around her is full of wings. Some fifty angels turn in rings, by the count of Küçükşen Öner, Yıldırım and Şen: the outer ring plays lutes, viols, trumpets and bagpipes, and six in the second carry the hammer, the crown of thorns, the column and the nails. Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen reads the vision from the Revelation of Saint John, and records that Geertgen tot Sint Jans made it as half of a diptych whose crucifixion is now in Edinburgh. Music and the Passion keep one orbit.
