The tomb is already empty, and the women are still on their way. The Cleveland Museum of Art points them out: three holy women hastening toward Christ's vacant tomb across a luminous landscape, while above them the Resurrection breaks out in vivid colors and explosive poses.
Heather Lemonedes, the museum's chief curator, calls it König's largest and most ambitious painting on copper, and the museum draws attention to its meticulous brushwork and exquisite details.
