She stands on the pyre and the executioner has put his sword through her throat; men fan the flames while the officials at left look on. Behind her the rest of the legend runs across the panel: Lucy brought before the brothel, the oxen set to drag her away, the priest bringing her the last sacraments, the beheading of Paschasius, the governor who condemned her.
The Rijksmuseum reads the panel as the outer left wing of an altarpiece made for her; its back once carried a Deposition, and the rest is lost. Bought in 1897 with the Vereniging Rembrandt's help.
