The throne is a building, its back wall plain boards. The Gemäldegalerie reads them as cedar, the wood of Solomon's Temple, the two lions in the little shrines above as the lions of Solomon's throne, the Christ Child as the new Solomon, and Our Lady, who holds Him, as the throne itself, the seat of Wisdom. At the foot of the steps kneels Ernst of Pardubice, first Archbishop of Prague, his insignia laid down like an offering. The museum finds a star in the gold, stella maris. The Bohemian Master seats Wisdom on a lap, and the lap is His throne.
