A pope's crown sits on God the Father's head, and His two hands hold the ends of the Cross on which His Son hangs. Between them the Holy Spirit, as a dove, spreads His wings. Three Persons, one fire of red and gold. The Cleveland Museum of Art describes the Father's cope, the clergy's vestment for processions: crimson velvet with gold thread in a large pomegranate pattern, fastened below the neck. The cherubim behind are bathed in red light, which the museum suggests may reflect the stained glass Laurent Girardin also designed in Lyon. Four angels keep their hands together, and the red goes on burning around the Cross.
