A dog puts his nose to the beggar's leg, and nobody at the table turns round. Lazarus lies on the ground at the far left, bare to the waist, his face lifted toward the feast; the rich man sits at the far right behind his lavish table, and between them a boy stands looking at the floor. Bassano keeps the two men apart. Cleveland notes that they are opposed both physically and socially, and tells how the parable ends: when both died, Lazarus was welcomed into heaven, while the rich man was consigned to hell. Nothing has turned yet. The cloth is still on the table.
Desiring to be filled with the crumbs that fell from the rich man's table. And no one did give him: moreover the dogs came and licked his sores.
