Dots per inch: how many pixels of the museum’s file go into each inch of paper. Our floor is 240 for sheets up to 20 inches, 180 up to 36 inches and 120 beyond, because a larger print is seen from further away. We never offer a sheet below the floor, and the number on each size is the one you receive.

All editionsThe Christ is the colour of the fields behind him, and the fields are the yellow of a Breton autumn, with the trees gone red along the lane. Three women in white coifs and black bodices kneel at the foot of the cross with their hands folded; the nearest has her eyes cast down. Beyond the wall a small figure climbs over into the next field, a man going home. Paul Gauguin painted it at Pont-Aven in 1889 and signed it at the lower right, and the Buffalo AKG Art Museum, which bought it in 1946, records that he took the figure from a seventeenth-century wooden crucifix in a chapel near the town, and that the yellow was chosen for what he felt about the peasants' isolated, pious lives. There is no darkened sky, no city on the hill. The crucifixion is set in an ordinary countryside at harvest, and the women have come to it as they would come to the Angelus. They are not looking up. They already know who it is.
