Christ sits on two rainbows at the very top edge, small as a coin held up to the sky, and everything under Him is the sentence being carried out. Johannes Karel, writing for ARTinWORDS, reads Christ the Judge as one small scene among many in Hieronymus Bosch's triptych. At a long table before hell's kitchen a fat man is held by a butterfly-winged demon while a red devil force-feeds him from a huge green barrel; Karel names him Gluttony. The saved are few. In the upper left, as Karel reads it, faint figures rise with angels toward a hole of sunlight in the clouds. The door is narrow, and open.
